This website is brought to you by The Chile Bowl Scholarship Gala Committee, San Antonio, Texas. The Committee's Primary Goal is to raise funds to award substantial scholarships to derserving current Fox Tech and Sidney Lanier high school students from San Antonio, Texas.
The Chile Bowl Gala website was built, and will continue to evolve, with a complete focus on serving current Fox Tech and Sidney Lanier high school students. While alumni from both schools are actively involved with this goal, we also rely on the many non-alumni supporters and sponsors that support this goal with their generous contibutions to the annual Chile Bowl Gala.
If the Fox Tech colors are Red and White and if the Sidney Lanier colors are Blue and White, why are there shades of Purple thoughout the site? Well, as someone pointed out, if you mix Red and Blue, the new color becomes Purple. This represents the unity that has formed between alumni from these two former rival schools. This unity has already paid off in the form of a fantastic 2010 Gala with promises of many more to come.
As you visit the site, you will note that everything is focused on ensuring a successful annual Chile Bowl Gala. While annual Galas certainly bring huge entertainment value to all in attendance, the ultimate goal of the Gala is to raise scholarship funds. Each Spring the Chile Bowl Gala Committee awards Scholarhsips to deserving students at both Fox Tech and Sidney Lanier high schools. In November 2010, the Gala raised $54,000.00. These funds were awarded as scholarships in May 2011.
The Chile Bowl (also known as the Chili Bowl) developed a rich history and many traditions between 1942 and 2009 when these two schools played their annual football game against each other in this "Bowl." While the "Bowl" itself is now history, alumni from both schools decided that the same should not happen to the spirit behind the Bowl. In 2010 a vigorous effort was launched to preserve the spirit behind the annual "Bowl;" that spirit being based on deep-seeded traditions unique to each school as well as respect and love for our respective high school alma mater. Having come together in 2010, via the Chile Bowl Gala Commiittee, alumni from both schools continue working in a united effort to ensure the legacy of this "Bowl" remains with us for many years to come; the beneficiaries of this effort being current Fox Tech and Sidney Lanier students.
